Limit Leadership Leaps, by Jonathan Yeo, TD Magazine, November 2024

Too frequently in organizations, leadership development begins after someone is assigned a supervisory role. But this creates two risks. First, we sometimes select people for leadership roles for reasons unrelated to their potential as leaders. And second, it’s often too late to undo the mistakes they sometimes make before their leadership knowledge, skills and values are in place. In this article, the author not only makes the case for early leadership development—including people who are potential leaders, or even those curious about it—he offers suggestions on the domains of learning to leverage.

Factors affecting transfer of online training: A systematic literature review and proposed taxonomy, by Ashutosh Shukla, Sanket Dash and Ashwani Kumar, Human Resource Development Quarterly, Fall 2024

Training employees in new competencies is vital for organizational success and sustainability, prompting significant investments in training programs. With the growing adoption of online training for its cost efficiency and flexibility, understanding factors that enhance its effectiveness is crucial. This literature review addresses the limited research in this area by developing a taxonomy of factors influencing online training transfer, grouped into four themes: digital literacy and attitudes, learner characteristics, training design and planning, and the learning environment, including organizational factors. The study links these factors to training outcomes (knowledge, skills, attitudes) and participants, providing a comprehensive framework for future research and practical guidance for improving online training effectiveness.
