Human Capital Lab Research Fellows Program
In the talent development field, there are too few opportunities to publish; those that do exist are limited in the number of articles they publish. Even more rare is the chance to review others’ work. That’s why we’ve created the Human Capital Lab Research Fellows Program, a platform for practitioners to publish original, practice-based writing, and to review the submissions of other members of our community.
Advancing practice comes from three sources. First, academic theory from empirical research can drive good practice. Second, and probably most common, we learn from trial and error. The third area, practitioners sharing their ideas and experiences, is what we nurture with this program. Peers supporting peers to elevate the profession.
Process
Writers submit practice-based articles (1,000 – 2,500 words). Two other members of the community will “referee” (review) the work, providing feedback and a publishing recommendation. The Human Capital Lab makes the final decision, with the emphasis on inclusion.
Structure
There are three fellowships in the program, each with publishing and reviewing minimums and criteria. It’s a points-based system, with authors earning two points per article and reviewers receiving one point per review. The awards are not time-bound; they can be earned as quickly or as leisurely as needed. Each award requires a minimum number of articles and reviews, and a larger overall point total. The awards are cumulative, so points previously earned count towards the next award:

Benefits
There are multiple benefits from participating in this program. Writing sparks creativity and hones thinking. Reviewing exposes you to new ideas and spurs you to think critically. As we post your articles, you can share them on your social media, post the links on your personal website, etc. (Authors retain full rights to their work and can republish freely.) Best of all, each award level comes with an electronic badge you can use to further your credentials and web presence.
Get Started
Register for the program (it’s free!) and make yourself available as a reviewer. Then download the reviewers’ rubric to learn how your papers will be evaluated and what you’ll need to decide as a reviewer.
