Training employees in new competencies is vital for organizational success and sustainability, prompting significant investments in training programs. With the growing adoption of online training for its cost efficiency and flexibility, understanding factors that enhance its effectiveness is crucial. This literature review addresses the limited research in this area by developing a taxonomy of factors influencing online training transfer, grouped into four themes: digital literacy and attitudes, learner characteristics, training design and planning, and the learning environment, including organizational factors. The study links these factors to training outcomes (knowledge, skills, attitudes) and participants, providing a comprehensive framework for future research and practical guidance for improving online training effectiveness.
